Why should A/Ls choose ICT? – ICT Education for School Students in Sri Lanka

ICT education in Sri Lanka starts during secondary education in the national curriculum. And it is one of the optional subjects for the list of subjects the students sit for in the National Ordinary Level examination. If any of the students wish to take up ICT as a main subject for their Advanced Level Education, they have the freedom to follow the subject as the main subject. 

Students of Sri Lanka are privileged as now ICT is in the Universities as a mainstream of education, securing their futures as IT specialists who can work in the most reputed IT firms of the country as well as in the world. 

The fundamentals are introduced in grade ten in the national curriculum, where the students experience the basics of IT. The syllabus is gradually expanded. And in a later year, the students get complete knowledge that will be sufficient for their age and mental maturity. And that it is being tested at the Ordinary level examinations. 

Also, ICT is taught in both languages – English and Sinhala in the schools. But when it comes to ICT grade 10, Sinhala medium, it is pretty challenging to get used to all the terminology. But still, the students get used to it with the help of expert teachers. There are enough supporting documents and books in the book shops today. ICT textbooks can be easily purchased from book shops. It is additional support to get more knowledge on the subject. Also, almost off the bookshops have the ICT OL past papers so students can buy them and work on them to prepare for the Ordinary level examinations
